National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) aims to train and facilitate job placement of around 10,000 educated youth of Jammu & Kashmir State, under Government of India’s special initiative ‘Udaan’, during the next financial year. Further, it is also putting in all efforts to rope in more number of Corporate Houses for partnership under Udaan, to increase the exposure to the rich talent pool available in the State.
Jayant Krishna, CEO, NSDC said “To bring more reputed companies as partner of the programme and connect aspirations of the Corporate World with the talented youth of Jammu and Kashmir are the major challenges ahead for NSDC and we are leaving no stone unturned to achieve the target”. So far, 10,679 J&K youth have been trained under Udaan Programme and more than 8000 of them are suitably placed in various Corporate Houses across the country, the CEO added.
‘Udaan’ is the Government of India’s Special Industry Initiative, funded by Union Ministry of Home Affairs, to address the needs of the unemployed youth in J&K, who are Graduate, Post Graduate and three year Diploma Engineers.
“During the last three years, 18,803 candidates joined Udaan Programme for skill development and 10, 679 of them completed the training. More than eighty percent of them are placed in reputed Corporate Houses and are very much satisfied with their job,” Mr Krishna said and added that for the year 2016-17, NSDC was targeting to train more than 12000 J&K youth and ensure that in total again more that eighty percent of them are suitably absorbed in different companies across the country.
While maintaining that principle focus of Udaan is to create an ecosystem that would bridge between companies and J&K youth, who were either unaware of each other or unable to meet, he shared that the existing number of 68 Corporate partners will soon go up by 40 percent in the new financial year ahead. He further added that the NSDC is happy to see the tremendous response of youth from J&K so far and this is evident from the number of aspirants, which is 87,539, who have so far registered themselves with Udaan. He also informed that existing NSDC Corporate partners have committed to training 78,873 youth in near future.
