The Maharashtra government signs MoUs with several companies and organizations to prepare 7.02 lakh youth to get employment-focused training the Skill Development and Entrepreneurship programme, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the state legislature on Monday.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the programme nationally to take advantage of the fact that more than 50 percent of India’s population is young and less than 25 years in age. He added, “There is a disconnect between unemployment and the kind of human resource required by the industries, and this disconnect can be bridged by skill development. The state government has set up a separate department for skill development and launched skill development programme.
Under the programme, various institutions offering skill training had to register with the government and the institute had to give an undertaking that 75 percent of those trained would be employed, he said. While giving the brief stats, he added, under this programme, 614 institutions have registered with us and 551 training centres were started which benefited 15,407 trainees. He also mentioned that over 124 more training classes are about to commence to train 3,700 participants.
Attendance will be marked through bio-metric system for trainees to prevent misuse of scheme and government funds. It has been made mandatory that 75 percent of those trained and employed serve in their new jobs for a minimum of six months.
He said multinationals like Volkswagen had given funds to the tune of INR 2 crore for upgrading Indian Training Institutes(ITIs), and Bosch had signed an agreement for providing soft skills and skills up-gradation.
