First regional skill development institute to be set up at Imphal College

The first regional institute for skill development and entrepreneurship for North Eastern region under a Prime Minister’s flagship programme is said to be set up at Imphal College.

Dr Ng Ibotombi, Principal of the Imphal college said that with an objective to develop skills of youth, a workshop on skilling India to build India will be held at the Court Room of Manipur University on April 19. The workshop will be jointly organised by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Federation of Skill Development Organisation (FSDO) under the auspices of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Youth from the nine north eastern states will participate in the workshop, he said. It will also aim to establish a regional institute for skill development and entrepreneurship at Imphal College, Dr Ng Ibotombi said. The academic session of the institute is planned to commence from July this year, he added.

Nine trades out of 18 trades under NSDC will be introduced first. NE regional coordinator of the workshop Dr Meinam Binota said that the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship(MSDE) was created in 2013. It was set up to ensure youth emerging from formal education are employable with job or self-employment oriented skills.
