Indo-German Tool Room (IGTR) signed Memorandum of Understanding with Shivaji University to promote Technical Training

Maharashtra : The Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Aurangabad-based Indo-German Tool Room (IGTR) on Tuesday.

Devanand Shinde, the SUK’s vice-chancellor said that the IGTR is an International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-certified Tool Room and Training Centre. “It was established in 1990 and is the symbol of Indo-German co-operation targeted at promoting purposeful technical education for the youth in India,” the VC said.

“Since the university aims to set up a centre of excellence at its campus in the near future, this MoU, gives us a chance to develop skilled manpower. The university is prepared to provide education to create better skilled individuals,” he said. He added that the IGTR MoU will be a great opportunity for the faculty as well as student exchange programmes.

The university on Tuesday had called a meeting of college principals and industry representatives to stress on the importance of skill-based education.

IGTR managing director Hemant Kapse said that providing expert knowledge and information about ever-changing trends is a major criteria in the MoU. “The MoU will pave the way for students to get to know about industrial requirements. We also plan to introduce short-term certificate courses which will prove quite helpful for students in their careers,” he said.

An SUK official said that the IGTR was actively supported with generous assistance from the the German government, the Government of India (GoI) as well as the state government. The organization implements its programme of technical training through its training centers located at Aurangabad. It also has sub-centres at Pune, Mumbai and Nagpur.
