Prince’s Trust, UK to join hands with AP State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) for skill development in Andhra

Prince’s Trust International global project manager Pete M’cabe visited the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) centre, set up on V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College campus, at Kanuru in the city.

The trust, a UK-based society, is working on various skill development programmes across the world to increase employability skills among the youth.

The project manager along with senior programmes manager Felicity Hosking interacted with the graduates, who underwent training in APSSDC centres and secured jobs in various multi-national centres. APSSDC director and retired IAS officer K. Lakshminarayana explained that the corporation has trained 25,000 students in the last one year of which more than 2,000 got placements in reputed companies.

The trust representatives visited Udyogaratham, a bus engaged to explain about the job opportunities for youth in rural areas. Staff deputed on Udyogaratham will collect applications and conduct recruitments on the spot, based on the vacancies available in different companies. About 30 persons, who passed SSC to the post-graduation level, have been provided jobs in the last one month, said APSSDC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Gantha Subba Rao.

Later, M’Cabe and Hosking visited the digital literacy camp being organised for Self-Help Group (SHG) women at Penamaluru and interacted with them. The SHG women explained that they are learning how to operate smart phones, sent and receive messages.

Speaking on the occasion, M’cabe said that Prince’s Trust is focussing on education, personality development, skill development and self employment among youth. The skill development centre on the V.R. Siddhartha College campus is functioning well and the trust will have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with APSSDC, said Hosking.

Siddhartha Academy president N. Venkateswarlu, vice-president M. Rajaiah, Siddhartha Engineering College principal A.V. Ratna Prasad, APSSDC Centre coordinator and IT Department head of the department M. Suneetha and others accompanied the team.
