Google launched Android Skilling and Certification program in contribution to Skill India Initiative, 2 million developers in India to get benefited

New Delhi : Search giant Google today unveiled Android Skilling and certification program to train and certify two million developers in India over the next three years. The Android Developer training will be available for free across universities.

Supporting Modi’s Skill India initiative, Google hopes to provide affordable access to a world class skilling and educational program for the developers. End-to-end Android training, Training Channels, Associate Android Developer Certification are the key elements of this program.

Speaking at the launch, Caeser Sengupta, VP, Product Management at Google said, “By building a world class curriculum and making it easily accessible to millions of students and developers in India, we want to contribute to the Skill India initiative and help make India the global leader in mobile app development.”

While starting up the certification program, developers will first have to go through a specially designed instructor-led training program, The Android Developer Fundamentals course, that will be made available across government and private universities and training institutes of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) of India. The in-person training module will be integrated with computer science curricula of universities within this calendar year. Starting July 18, the Android Fundamentals course material will also be available free of charge on NPTEL as part of its online Mobile Computing course.

Google has also introduced globally recognized, job-oriented Associate Android Developer Certification in India. This certification program is a performance-based exam which will help candidates to get an entry-level Android developer jobs in the Industry. After training, developers can log on to the Google Developers training website and take the certification exam priced at Rs 6,500.

Google have also tied up with training partners like Udacity, Edureka, Manipal Global, Simplilearn, Koening and UpGrad for the initiative. These tarining partners will operate as Authorized Android Training Partners in India. Google will open-source all Android Developer Fundamentals practicals and courseware and make them available to everyone for free.

Last year, Google and Udacity paired up with Tata to offer online technical training courses to millions of software developers who were scrambling for jobs. The course focused on the technical know-how to build Android apps.
