After an overwhelming response on “Sikkim Skill Fest”, state skill web portal got selected under “100 Best e-Governance Portals”

SkillReporter Sikkim SkillYoungIndia ScreenshotOnce again, team at Department of Skill and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Labour, Govt. of Sikkim has proven their dedicated efforts as their state skill portal  www.SkillYoungIndia.com has been selected among the “Best 100 e-Governance Portals” and will be rewarded at the ceremony going to be held at Hyderabad.

Earlier to this, Sikkim State Skill Mission under Department of Skill and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Labour, Govt. of Sikkim in association with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has organized “Sikkim Skill Fest & Job Mela-2016”. The event got an overwhelming response from the youth and 1620 youth got registered and 895 got placed in just a 2-day Job Mela, which is a remarkable achievement if seen from the perspective of Northeastern states.

Panel discussion on “Job Readiness and being a Skill Champion” took place to encourage the northeastern youth to come forward and choose skill training as their career path. Eminent speaker from the NSDC, Dr. Sapna Poti, Principal-North East shared her views on Skill Development Opportunities in North East. Sikkim Cooperative Union Charman, Sh. Ganesh Rai urged Sikkim Youth to showcase their capability and take ‘Sikkim on World Skill Map’. Sh. Diwakar Basnet from leading industry chamber CII highlighted the Skills of Settling outside Sikkim. Sh.R N Rai, Chairman- Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation encouraged the youth to get prepared for the opportunities in future.

Not only youth, but industry like Kevin Care, Acor, IQST and Maruti Suzuki also welcomed this government initiative. Among the other participants were key stakeholders of skill ecosystem, institutional partners, MSME-DI, Gangtok, Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Agencies, Sikkim State Rural Livelihood Mission, Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation and experts keen towards skill development in the Sikkim and other Northeastern states. State Institute of Capacity Building, Government of Sikkim facilitated the registration of candidates on the portal.
