Acid attack survivors get lessons in beauty and wellness skills

Meerut : Various organizational heads and members of Beauty & Wellness Sector Skill Council (B&WSSC), a National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) support institution, came down to Meerut for counseling and training sessions with acid attack survivors with an aim to motivate them to take up career courses in wellness industry.

Beauty experts from VLCC tried their hands on the survivors while the likes of Gurpreet Seble, president and founder of Nail Spa India, apprised the gathering about the new emerging areas in wellness sector. The BWSSC is currently organizing sessions with nomadic tribes, acid attack survivors, transgenders, etc.

Speaking to participants, Seble said, “The wellness industry is facing a serious lack of skilled workforce. If we are able to train the youth in this realm, not only employment will be generated but it will also help the industry to grow.”

Saturday’s interaction was coordinated by Chandrahas Mishra, an acid attack survivor and district coordinator of Acid Survivors Foundation India. He said, “There are 24 acid attack victims in the entire district and we managed to bring eight to this session. I hope they will certainly benefit for this endeavor which is aimed at equipping them with adequate skill.”

One of acid attack survivors, Geeta Rajput whom the experts gave beauty treatment, was quite positive about the whole affair. “This is a great opportunity for the likes of us. I am certainly looking forward to learning the trade to become more self-dependent.”

Rachna Pandit, a local trainer at the session, said, “There is lot of scope for employment in tier 2 and 3 cities. But none of the big brands that open their shops in these cities survive for a very long time because of lack of trained staff. Now the National Skill Development Corporation is offering advanced (level 3 and 4) courses in beauty through the NGO.”
