First Lady lauds women for showing enthusiasm towards skill development

Port Blair : The First Lady of Andaman & Nicobar  Islands, Smt. Prem Mukhi has said that women have the strength to take the country forward. She was speaking at the valedictory function of Tailoring and Fashion Designing course, organized by Unnati, an NGO here, with the support of Usha International Ltd, New Delhi, at Unnati’s Food Processing Training cum Production Centre at the Industrial Estate, Dollygunj here this evening.

The Secretary, Industries, Smt. Rashmi Singh, Chairperson, SSWB, Dr. Poonam Arora, Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Mr. Jaydeep Kumar Dey, Chairperson PBMC, Mr. B. Eswar Rao also graced the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Mrs. Mukhi congratulated Unnati and Usha International Ltd. for providing such platforms to women in skill development.  She remarked that women are coming forward and availing opportunities in various vocational activities like tailoring and fashion designing, food processing and handicrafts making etc., which is an inspiration to many. She expressed happiness that in A&N Islands, women are showing enthusiasm in multitasking besides taking care of their families and daily household chores.

She also acknowledged the issues and challenges highlighted by women SHGs and assured that their demands for extending the required support and facilities will be looked into. She said, the Modi Government is working relentlessly for the welfare of women and programmes such as ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ is gaining momentum across the country.

She also distributed certificates to the trainees and felicitated eight volunteers with commendation certificates and lauded the trainees for their quest for learning.

Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary Industries congratulated Mr. C. Mohammed for his efforts and innovative ideas towards empowering women. She also highlighted about ‘Andaman Haat’, where women SHGs are given the platform to sell their hand made products. She said, efforts will be made to ensure that women are given opportunity to sell their products throughout the year adding that resource persons from mainland shall be invited to impart trainings on design improvement, garment and fashion designing, incorporation of modern designs and basic skill development. She said, after two years, the connectivity here will improve and women can also sell their products online not only in Isles but across the country.

In her address, the Chairperson SSWB said, women have the capacity to do anything and they cannot be underestimated. She expressed happiness that many women are coming forward and honing their skills in various sectors and becoming independent. She exhorted the trainees to make best use of their skills and also enlightened them about ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ programme.

In his address, the Adhyaksh, ZPSA said, skill development training camps in rural areas are necessary besides provision for financial support to the trainees. He thanked Unnati for providing such wonderful opportunity to women by organizing this training programme.

Manager, Dept. USS, Mr. Saikat Nasker, while speaking explained about the various training programmes imparted by Usha besides courses in tailoring and fashion designing. He also handed over the course material to the Mrs. Mukhi. Smt. Shaima Shamim, Secretary, Unnati, highlighted about the activities of Unnati. The trainees also shared their experience and feedbacks about the training programmes on the occasion. The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by associate member, Unnati,  Dr. Jahanara Yasmeen
