Punjab to get 1,000 skill-development centers, says Rajiv Pratap Rudy


Amritsar (Punjab) : Union minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudi inaugurated a multi-skill development centers in front of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) campus.

Addressing a gathering, the minister said the center would help in preparing the workforce for the industry. He said 1,000 such centres would be set up in Punjab in two years to provide employment opportunities to the youth.

“While the Union government has launched Make in India to uplift the industry in the country, the Punjab government has launched the Makers in India drive, which is appreciable,” said the minister.

Rudi said the Union government has decided to open 50 international skill development centers in the country. He said one such centre and the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra will also be opened in Amritsar in collaboration with the state Punjab government.

Speaking on the occasion, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said the Punjab government aimed at imparting skill development training to over 1 lakh youth in a year. He said 1,000 more such centre would be opened in the next two years, where 5 lakh youngsters will be provided professional training every year.

Sukhbir said the state government would open one centre for 10 villages.“The youth will be provided free toolkits and loan on low-interest rates,”. He added that the Punjab cabinet will give its nod to set up a central skill-development university in the state.

The Punjab government has set up five multi-Skill development Center in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur and Bathinda and three health sector skill development centers in Patiala, Amritsar and Faridkot, which have the capacity to train 12,000 to 15,000 students annually.
