Rashtriya Madhmik Sikhya Abhyan project director asked schools to ensure NSQF implementation

Mandi Ahmedgarh (Punjab) : The National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF), launched by the Ministry of Skill Development, is yet to get the desired acceptance of the majority of the schools being run by the state government and private institutes.

Most of the schools still do not have well-equipped laboratories, and vocational trainers being outsourced are entrusted with miscellaneous jobs, thus defeating the government’s agenda to inculcate various skills in the students through formal or informal learning techniques.

Rashtriya Madhmik Sikhya Abhyan Authority, organization monitoring the progress of the scheme, has taken a note of the “apathetic” attitude of various schools towards the implementation of the scheme.

The NSQF, notified three years ago, was launched for the students of Classes IX to XII of the government and private-aided schools across the state. However, authorities of most of the schools have reportedly not paid much heed to the government’s scheme.

Taking cognizance of the negative feedback about the progress of the scheme, the office of the School Education Director-cum-State Project Director, had directed all District Education Officers and heads of the educational institutes to ensure that the NSQF was implemented in letter and in spirit for the senior secondary classes of all schools.

The communique sent to schools stated that the majority of schools were yet to set up laboratories in separate rooms. It was also found that vocational trainers were made in-charges of other classes and projects as an adjustment of teachers who were on leave.

“It has been brought into notice of the office that heads, staff and the school management committee are not extending full cooperation for the implementation of the NSQF launched by the Union Government. Some schools have not allotted separate room for the establishment of a laboratory for the purpose,” reads the communication adding that a strict action will be taken if a room in not spared for setting up the laboratory.

The Deputy Project Director has directed that the school heads should ensure that the vocational subjects are taught before recess. School heads have also been warned against the deployment of vocational trainers for non-vocational functions.

“If at all, a vocational trainer is adjusted against any teacher on leave, he should be given Class between IX and XII and asked to teach only the vocational subject,” said the Deputy Project Director.

Acknowledging the receipt of the communication, many heads of schools under Ludhiana and Sangrur district claimed that they had already advised the staff concerned to implement the orders.
