Construction associations BAI and ACCE joined hands with IIA to take up mentoring and employability enhancement programmes

Coimbatore : The Coimbatore chapters of Builders’ Association of India, Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, and Indian Institute of Architects have signed an agreement to jointly take up mentoring programme for engineering college students.

According to a press release, the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India) had taken up mentoring programme in six colleges in the city. Now, the three organizations will create a standard student mentoring programme. There is a need for such an initiative as the industry needs skilled manpower. Though the Union Government has several skill development programmes through the National Skill Development initiative, the industry should also come out with mentoring and employability enhancement programmes for students in civil engineering, architecture, etc of professional colleges.

“One of the main challenges facing the industry is the acute shortage of adequately skilled human resource across the entire spectrum,” the press release said. The programme will be conducted for students in second, third and fourth years of under graduation course so that the students get an orientation towards practical aspects of construction industry. The organizations also signed agreement with two more colleges in the city for the programme. There will be 30 schedules with half a day and one day modules that will be handled by domain experts.
