NDMC – NSDC to set up Centre of Excellence to upgrade skills of employees in CPWD, DDA, MCD in Delhi

New Delhi : The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), in collaboration with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has decided to set up a centre for excellence for ‘Recognized Prior Learning’ having modern facilities in the national capital with a view to provide best serving practices for municipal services providers.

Disclosing about the initiative, NDMC Chairman Naresh Kumar while speaking at the opening function of a 3-day Recognized Prior Learning (RPL) training workshop for NDMC employees of the Horticulture Department yesterday said ,”The RPL training has been organized by NDMC Smart City Ltd to meet the requirements of a global city”.

Outlining the details of the RPL Skill Development Institute, the Chairman informed that the skill development initiative would be for catering to the needs of the NDMC employees, and employees of other municipal bodies in Delhi with best practices in various municipal trades. The employees of institutions like CPWD, DDA, three Municipal Corporations of Delhi will be able to get RPL in this centrally located centre.Under the programme, training would be imparted to ten thousand employees coming from different fields like Horticulture, Construction, Electricity, Security and Sanitation Departments.

In the first phase of the training programme commencing from today, as many as 40 gardeners of NDMC will be trained in a 3-day programme. As a whole, programmes will be organised every week, through which about ten thousand employees would be provided skill training in various trades having relevance to municipal functions during the financial year 2017-18, he disclosed.He further said NDMC envisions a Smart City providing the highest quality of life to its citizens and visitors along with nurturing economical growth that is environmentally sustainable. The RPL will be provided in collaboration with NSDC, and a certificate would be given to the trainees to recognize their upgraded skills.
