Nagaland University organized skill development workshop on “Farmpreneurship, a paradigm shift”

Mokokchung :  A two day skill development workshop on ‘farmpreneurship’, a paradigm shift got underway at Nagaland University, Lumami, organized by the Centre for Gandhian Studies and Research Department of Sociology, with Samir Bordoloi, member, Board of Management, Assam Agricultural University & secretary general, SPREAD as the resource person.

The inaugural function of the workshop was graced by N. S. Jamir, Vice-Chancellor in-charge as the special guest. He congratulated the department on organizing the workshop and said that farmers are the real entrepreneurs and custodian of the environment and that the notion of considering farmers as low is wrong. He added that skill development is not just about manual development but building on the strength and potential of the individuals. Jamir further said that ‘farmpreneurship’ should be taken up to increase one’s capacity, generate employment and increase income.

The key note address of the workshop was delivered by Dr. Temjensosang, Director In-charge, CGSR. Dr. Temjensosang in his address said that the Centre for Gandhian studies and research is working towards the ushering the ideas and philosophy of Gandhian thought through skill development training and programmes for a self-sufficient economy.

He said that the youth today are facing a situation of joblessness. The objective of the workshop he said was to train the youths in entrepreneurship skill development and help youths to find space for self-employment through organic farmpreneurial activity.

The inaugural function was chaired by Deepika Paul, and the welcome address was give by Dr. Toshimenla Jamir, Head of Deparment, Sociology while the vote of thanks was given by Dr. Athungou Ovung.

The two day seminar will have five technical sessions on different topics relating to ‘farmpreneurship’. Samir Bordoloi, the resource person for the workshop, was recently conferred the Best Agripreneur of the Country for 2017 by the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management and Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Government of India.
