Odisha Government to get $ 175 million ADB funds for skill growth

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) : Negotiations for a $175-million Odisha Skill Development Project were held at the India Resident Mission of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in New Delhi between the Governments of India and Odisha and the ADB on Monday.

Union Department of Economic Affairs Director Rishikesh Singh, ADB Technical Advisor (Education) Brajesh Panth and Odisha Skill Development & Technical Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh signed the negotiation document.

The project entails setting up of eight Advanced Skill Training Institutes (ASTIs) as Hubs and development of 30 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) as Spokes for imparting advanced skills training to youths to make them employable.

It involves 110 million dollars of ADB loan and 65 million dollars as State share. The programme aims to rain two lakh youths in next five years in advanced technology, create 100 master trainers, 20,000 trainers and 100 assessors with 70-per cent job placement. The State Government has undertaken skill development programme in a big way, and the ADB support in this regard has come as a booster dose. The places for setting up of ASTIs have been identified, The leading ITIs would be modernised and advanced skill training would be provided.
