Telecom Sector Skill Council and CII (North) organized seminar on “Fostering Skilling and Employability in Telecom Sector”

Chandigarh : Telecom Sector Skill Council and Confederation of Indian Industry, (CII)  Northern Region, have come along to organise a Seminar on Skill Development in Telecom Sector – “Fostering Skilling & Employability” at CII, Sector-31, Chandigarh today. Fain focus area of the seminar was “how to make Youth of India employable through skill development under the Skill Indian Mission” As we know Northern India currently constitutes 30% of the all India working age population with about 222 million individuals in this age group. The distribution of working age population in the North suggests that there is a need to train over 60 million individuals by 2022 with ~35 million in skill intensive sectors. This translates to training at least 5 million in a year. To achieve this target, skill development of North India need to be done so they can make employable.

Many eminent personalities from Government and Private Sector were present on the occasion. Chief Guests were Mr. Arvind bali, CEO Videocon Telecom and Handset and Mr. MP Singh, IAS, Technical Education & Industrial Training, Government of Pubjab. On the occasion Maj Gen PN Monga, Telecom sector skill council said “There is a lot of need of skilling in today’s time. To skill the yourh the GOI has formed NSDC to provide skill trainings at large.  Through this event we have provide common platform to all the stakeholders i.e. Industry, academia and training partners to discuss challenges and find out the way possible to enhance employability. TSSC is playing a vital role in providing training to the youth and employ them for a better livelihood.”

MP Singh, IAS said “Number of unemployed youth in Punjab is large comparatively other states. In order to employ the youth of Punjab, we have set up multi-skills lab in Punjab. There are lot of jobs emerging in telecom sector but for trainings we need lot of investment for labs, equipment in the telecom sector. I believe major responsibility depend on the industry to improve the skill ecosystem.We are happy to support further and take it to higher level.”Arvind bali, CEO videocon said “I am happy to be here at the event. I am passed out from engineer college in Chandigarh, I must say our Indian education system has to improve at large in order to inculcate skill trainings. Am grateful to PM Narendra Modi that he is personally putting lot of efforts in skilling India and making India a skill capitol of World.”

Konark Bhardwaj, Circle CEO, Reliance communications said “We need to promote skilling at a larger scale, for that we need to invite industry experts as a guest lecturer to the Academic institutions for having a better understanding of skill-sets required by the industry.” Seminar has witnessed two major sessions. The sessions were on:  Improving Access to Skill Training in Telecom Sector,  Interfacing Academia , Industry and Training Partners, Enhancing Quality in Skill Training, Sharing Best Practices and Learning, and   Govt., Industry, Academia and TP perspectives of Skilling.
