New Delhi : The Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship will discuss the issue of restructuring with sector skill councils in June before making up its mind, said KP Krishnan, Secretary in the Ministry.
Addressing a Management and Entrepreneurship Skills Summit here, Krishnan said it was excessive to have more than 40 skill councils and the Ministry was considering reducing the number of sector skill councils, as recommended by the Sharda Prasad Committee Report. Krishnan conceded there were flaws in the existing skilling ecosystem and pointed to the fact that there was no or little wage premium available to the formally skilled workers and the skill certification system lacked credibility in absence of a regulator. However, he said the skill councils would remain the key to the industry connect of the skilling ecosystem, a release issued by the All India Management Association said.
