Universities should not only produce graduates but good human beings and intelligent, patriotic, skilled and useful citizens : Governor P B Acharya

Itanagar :  Arunachal Pradesh Governor P B Acharya today said that the universities must not be centres for education only but should also be hubs for development.

Gracing the business summit “Vibrant North East 2017” at Guwahati, he said that universities should not only produce graduates but good human beings and intelligent, patriotic, skilled and useful citizens, an official communiqué said here today.

The universities should know how to harness the potential of the region and create assets out of the natural resources, he said.

Stressing that the graduation courses must have skill development programme in the penultimate term, the Governor said that the graduates coming out of the universities and colleges must be easily employable.

Terming North East as one of the most vibrant regions of the country, Acharya said that the region has abundant resources in terms of hydropower potential, water, land, forests, oil and minerals. Only the people of the region must stand on their own feet and harness the potentials of the region. They have to improve their work culture”, he added.

Emphasizing that centrally sponsored schemes should be available to the lowest echelon of society, the governor called for more awareness about the welfare programmes.

There are many welfare schemes and projects for stakeholders in various fields, including agriculture and horticulture but the targeted section of the society, such as farmers, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders are not aware of it,? he pointed out.

The educated and empowered people must facilitate the disadvantaged section of the people to avail benefits from it, Acharya stressed.

The event is being jointly organized by the Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development and the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India.
