1330 Crore budgeted “Kaushalya Karnataka” scheme having 5 lakh skill training target, got 6 Lakh youth registered : CM Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru : The skill development programme to empower five lakh youth in various skill sets had received overwhelming response and the Karnataka government had targeted to train at least 5 lakh youth, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah informed the Legislative Assembly today.

Replying to a question by Mohiyuddin Bava (Congress), he said under the ‘Kaushalya Karnataka Scheme’ a separate Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood had been set up.The scheme had received very good response with more than 6 lakh youth getting them registered.

The government had earmarked Rs 1330 crore to provide free training in various trades to the youth. Out of this, the Centre would contribute Rs 130 crore and the state government spends the remaining amount.

The registered candidates have option to select five courses ranging from three to six months which they will like to undergo  training. Skill training will be given in the 529 identified job roles approved by National Skill Development Corporation as per NSQF standards and syllabus. Later employment opportunities will also be provided in a related sector, he added.

The registration of candidates and the training centre is under progress in the State under Chief Minister’s Kaushalya Karnataka Scheme. The training centers will be inspected for the availability of required infrastructure and then will be accreditation.

Mr Siddaramaiah said the Karnataka State Skill Policy envisages designing and implementation of skill development, entrepreneurship and livelihood activities on a mission mode converging all schemes and programmes under the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood.

He said that the Skill Policy primarily focuses on providing employment to those between 16 and 35 years for the period2016-2030. In this period, 1.88 crore youth will require skill training, and a goal has been set to train 13.4 lakh youth annually. But the training would be provided as per the capacity created in these skill training centres.
