Manipur to provide skill development training to surrendered militants

Imphal : “Manipur government would provide skill development programmes to the surrendered militants that would enable them to find sustainable means of livelihood,” this was stated by Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh at the homecoming ceremony of a cadre of KCP Lamphel held at CM Secretariat on Monday.

Chief Minister said that these skill development programmes would be starting from June 30 and would be provided free of cost to those surrendered cadres. He further said that those who have surrendered four years back would be allowed to stay at their respective homes.

Calling as the achievement of the new government, he praised the surrendered cadre for joining the mainstream after having faith in the new government. Speaking on the occasion, the CM lauded the bold step taken by the militant to shun violence and to join the path of peace and prosperity which would help progress and development in the State.

Strongly condemning the recent killings at Ukhrul district, he said that an FIR has been lodged and the entire area has already cordoned off by the combined team of State Police and Assam Rifles. Befitting punishments would be given to those perpetrators who are associated with such act of terrorism, he added.

The surrendered cadre is identified as Soraisam Modhuchandra Singh alias S.M. Meitei aged 45 years, son of S. Dinamani Singh of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai. He was working as Self Style Commander of KCP Lamphel faction. The arms and ammunition deposited by him include two 9mm pistols with magazines and 9 live rounds.
