Urban Development and Housing Department Minister emphasized on quality skill development

Ranchi : Urban Development and Housing Department Minister CP Singh asked all the stakeholders including institutions involved in providing skill development programmes in State to go for routine monitoring of quality of training being provided.

As the chief guest at a one-day ASSOCHAM National Summit on Skilling India — The Way Forward — programme on Monday, Singh said number of youngsters getting skilled through short-term skill development programmes was important, but more important was quality of the programme and training being provided.

“Skill development is necessary in every field today. Government has been doing a lot to get our huge unskilled workforce skilled. But we will have to monitor quality of skills being provided in skill development centres because only quality skill which makes one employable after training makes some sense. Being Graduate makes no sense if one can’t write even an application correctly. I am sure this is not happening in skill development centres,” said Singh.

He said that short term skill development programmes like those of four weeks or 12 weeks might not garner required reap and institutes needed to come up with plans of at least 6 months to a year.

“Industries and skill development providing institutions need to work closely so that we come up with most employable workforce. The institutes will also have to make long term plans for those youth willing to pursue higher education,” said Singh.

Expert panelists in different sessions including ASSOCHAM Ranchi Regional Office Director SK Singh, Jharkhand Skill Development Mission Society (JSDMS) Mission Director Ravi Ranjan, Central Tasar Research and Training Institute (Ranchi Centre) Director Ajit Kumar Sinha, Amity University (Ranchi) Vice Chancellor Raman Kumar Jha, ICA Edu Skills Pvt Ltd MD Narendra Kumar Shyamsukha, Ranchi University ex-VC LN Bhagat, JSDMS ex-MD RP Singh, Veer Kunwar Singh University (Arah) ex-VC SP Singh and others too stressed upon possibilities, necessity and potential of skill development programmes in State.
