Lucknow : Union minister of skill development and entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan has ordered a complete revamp of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state by making the training more job-oriented with the aim of providing jobs and employment to nearly 15 lakh youths in Uttar Pradesh every year.
During his visit to Lucknow, Pradhan held a meeting with UP minister of youth welfare, vocational education, skill development, Chetan Chauhan and principal secretary, vocational education and skill development Bhuvnesh Kumar and announced a series of decisions for improving quality of ITIs and making trained hands employable.
Pradhan said that UP should open more ITIs and hold job melas. He said that more than 6.18 lakh students have already been registered under the skill development programme in the state and one lakh of them are undergoing training.
Besides, of the 2.50 lakh youths who underwent training around 1.40 lakh got employment which means that over 50 per cent of those registered under skill development programme got employment in last three years.
The Union minister said that nearly 70,000 ITI pass outs from the state should be immediately given National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) certificate so that they can get employment in other states also. He said that henceforth, state agencies would be empowered to make spot inspections of private skill development centres and take remedial action.
