Women’s varsity to start online courses to provide skill development training

Karnataka : The Akkamahadevi Women’s University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with State University, New York, for starting an online certificate course in skill development.

The university is planning to start the courses within next four months by identifying colleges that have adequate resources mainly computers with internet facility.

The courses will be held in four departments: business skills in engineering and management, technical and professional communication skills, supply-chain management and HR & soft skills.

P.G. Tadsad, HOD, Department of Library and Information Science, said that the final year graduate and postgraduate students are eligible to take the certificate course. The courses are meant to provide skill development training to the students to increasing the employability in the market.

He said that in the beginning, the university plans to start the course only in 10 colleges, mainly in north Karnataka region.

Prof. Tadsad said that since the course would be based on a particular IP address, the students will have to come to the college everyday to open the website and study for stipulated number of hours to complete the course. “Meanwhile, a contact programme of 10 days would also be conducted where the students will interact with experts on the subject,” he said.

He claimed that the course fees will be nominal which will help any students to apply for it.
