Centralized facility be set up for supervision of skill development programmes : CM Vijayan

Thiruvananthpuram : Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed that skill development programmes being conducted in the State by various agencies and government departments be converged.

Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence, ITI, National Employment Service, Kerala; Additional Skill Acquisition Programme, Kerala; Kudumbasree, Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel are some of the agencies conducting skill development training programmes and courses in the State.

Mr.Vijayan gave the direction at a meeting convened here recently to discuss how these programmes and courses can be improved qualitatively. He said that a centralized facility be set up for the supervision of skill development programmes.

The programmes and courses should be evaluated for impact and studies should be conducted on the job prospects of those who complete these courses. These courses are better run in association with business organisations or industrial ventures.

Ensure quality: Skills development programmes should be planned to suit the specialties of districts and the quality of the training imparted should be ensured, the Chief Minister said. He also entrusted the Labour Additional Chief Secretary Tom Jose with the task of coordinating skills development programmes and prepare the road map for revamping the programmes.

Chief Secretary Paul Antony, Tom Jose, Higher Education Secretary, Usha Titus, LSG Secretary B. Ashok, Employment Director Sreeram Venkitaraman, Kudumbasree Director Hari Kishore, KITTS Director Rajasree Ajith, Jipson Verghese and the CM’s Principal Secretary V. S. Senthil, participated in the meeting.
