AICTE issued public notice confirming “Circular on scrapping 75 per cent attendance rule” as fake and mischievous

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has recently issued a public notice confirming that the circular regarding scrapping of 75 per cent attendance rule is fake and mischievous.

AICTE vice-chairman MP Poonia said, “Your attention in drawn to a fake circular issued on AICTE letterhead regarding scrapping of 75 per cent attendance rule and introducing vocational projects which has become viral on social media/network. The circular is misleading and mischievous,” AICTE vice-chairman MP Poonia said in the notice addressed AICTE approved institutions.

“We would like to confirm that the AICTE has not issued any circular in this regard. The AICTE is lodging a complaint against the fake circular in the cyber crime cell of Delhi Police. You are therefore requested to ignore the aforesaid circular if it comes to your notice and inform your faculty and students accordingly,” Poonia added.

Furthermore, the police have lodged an FIR in the matter.

Meanwhile, commenting on the issue, AICTE chairman Anil D Sahasrabudhe said, “First of all, we would not issue such a circular. Secondly, whoever is behind this should be caught as they have misused and forged AICTE logo as well as the national emblem. This is a very serious offence and we will lodge a complaint with the IT cell of the police”.

About the fake circular:

As per media reports, the ‘fake circular’ in question which was addressed to “all Directors/Principals of AICTE approved institutions” was named ‘Scrapping of 75 per cent Attendance Rule and introducing Vocational Projects.”

“To address the declining employability of over 12 Lakh Engineering Graduates, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has decided to to scrap the 75 per cent attendance rule w.e.f. 18/01/2018 due to inability of updating the syllabus on new technologies and advancements regularly,” the letter read. Moreover, the ‘fake circular’ had the signature of AICTE official Professor GK Gokhale.
