Bhubaneswar: The state government has directed universities to furnish comprehensive report for seeking recognition as a Skill University.

A first-of-its-kind in the country, a state-run or private university will be accorded the status of Skill University, which will monitor all skill development training activities.

The skill development and technical education department has asked for a point-wise compliance account of the same. The department has already issued a mandatory 16-point guideline for varsities to get the status.

The state government has formed an expert committee, headed by vice-chancellor of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), to evaluate the applications and recommend the government to accord a university as Skill University.

In another development, the Sri Sri University hosted a daylong boot camp under the Odisha Start-up Yatra to search for entrepreneurial talent in the university and creating a startup-friendly ecosystem.

The MSME department’s additional chief secretary L.N. Gupta highlighted the aim behind the introduction of boot camps and said this programme would encourage entrepreneurs and youths to set up their ventures in the state. “We should think big. We should dream big. Because life is too short to think and dream small,” he said.

The students will present their ideas in the extensive ideation workshop on February 21 and 22. Experts will mentor those. More than 400 ideas will be pitched by the aspiring students, from which the foremost ideas will be selected for an extreme acceleration programme. The selected ideas will get cash prizes and recognition.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Janury 30 launched the Start-up India-Odisha Yatra van that would travel 60 educational institutions across 16 districts of the state till February 27.

The yatra will cover educational institutions in Khurda, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput, Rayagada and Ganjam districts.
