14.19 crore sanctioned to RSLDC to open new skill development centers under PMKVY

Jaipur : Ten new skill development centres for youths to be established shortly in Rajasthan under the State engagement programmes of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana will bring scale and speed with high standards to the training modules. A sum of Rs. 14.19 crore has been sanctioned to the Rajasthan Skill and Livelihoods Development Corporation for the purpose.

The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has approved Rs. 94.63 crore to the State for four years with a target to train over 64,500 youths. Another seven centres under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushal Yojana will also come up in the State during the next financial year.

K.P. Krishnan, Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development, who was here over the weekend, said it was necessary to link the youths with soft skills training programmes which had largely been left out in the current education system, especially at the rural level. “Industrial houses demand a workforce that is not only technically qualified but also well-versed and has good communication skills,” he said.

Mr. Krishnan met the Skills, Employment and Entrepreneurship (SEE) Department officials to discuss the skilling model, opportunities and convergence between the Centre and the State to ensure speed and scale for the skill development programme. He also visited the women’s industrial training institute (ITI) at Bani Park here and interacted with the students.

Advanced laboratories

SEE Commissioner Krishna Kunal said the State government had forged partnerships with various industries to set up advanced laboratories in the ITIs and established centres of excellence to run industry-specific skill training programmes. The State has also witnessed successful implementation and certification under a propeller programme in ITIs with focus on developing English communication skills for employability.
