Commissioner pulls up ITI Principals, Skill Development Center officers for youth unemployment

Ujjain: Divisional commissioner MB Ojha took a divisional review meeting of skill development schemes at Brahaspati Bhavan, here on Monday, where officers of skill development centers, principals of ITI etc of all districts were present. He expressed resentment over the fact that the youth were not getting employment despite getting adequate training.

He also expressed anger on the apathetic attitude of officers concerned. Ojha said under the skill development scheme of the government, unemployed youths were given training in different trades, occupations in skill development centers and ITI etc, costing Rs 15 to 20 thousand per person a month, but was pointless if the youth were not benefitting out of it.

“Even after a two year course, these youngsters are able to get jobs which give them a salary of just 10-15 thousand, so one can just imagine what a 3-6 months course would fetch them,” he said. They should be trained in professions that have more employment viability, added.

He questioned officers that being in the government service, they earned Rs 1 lakh per month as salary, but failed to see that trained youths could not even manage to get a job of Rs 10 thousand per month. He expressed his displeasure that the employment office did not organise employment fairs as per the Government’s decision.

He said “now that registration of unemployed people at the employment office has become online, there is no reason for not holding employment fairs.” Ojha even said at many places ITI officials-employees are not found at the headquarters of skill development centers during working hours. Mobile phones are able to track the location instantly through the GPS system and hence warned them that he would track them through the GPS and suspend them if he did not find them at the head quarters.
