One crore youths to be imparted skill development training by 2020 : Bihar Chief Minister

Patna : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that his government has set a target of preparing one crore skilled youths by the end of 2020 in the state.

Kumar said while he was addressing a state level skill development competition. Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi was present on the occasion.

“We started focusing on skill development programme just after assuming power in the state (in the year 2005). The government started ‘Hunar’ programme for women belonging to minorities which has been extended to other sections of the society too. The Central government not only appreciated it but also adopted it,” Kumar said.

“Skill Development Mission was given the target of imparting skill development training to one crore youths in five years. There were some problems in initial years but now the target of preparing one crore skilled youths will be fulfilled by the end of 2020 in the state,” the CM said.

In past 12 years, his government has worked in almost all sectors, Kumar said.

The CM said that he had made it clear to his officials that they should prepare plans and schemes and dont worry about money and the result is that the size of Bihar’s budget, which once used to be of Rs 22,000 crore, has increased to Rs 1.80 lakh crore out of which Rs 90,000 crore would be spent on various developmental activities.

Talking about seven resolves programme, Kumar said that every household would be provided with various facilities such as toilet, piped drinking water, pucca road, drainage, electricity.

Putting youths’ development in the foreground of the state government’s agenda, the CM said that state government would provide Students Credit Card at a soft interest of four per cent through its own educational finance corporation for pursuing higher studies.

The government has also created a corpus of Rs 500 crore to promote entrepreneurship among youths, Kumar said and added that his government has taken a decision to open technical and professional institutions- like engineering, polytechnic, para medical, women’s ITI college etc- in every district so as to prevent people from Bihar going outside to pursue engineering and technical courses.

“Bakhtiyarpur (in Patna district) which is my birth place. Since I have done engineering so it has been my long wish to set up an engineering college at Bakhtiyarpur. Now land has been made available there for the institute which is being run from Patna,” Kumar said.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Labour Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh, Development Commissioner Shishir Sinha, Labour Resources Department’s Principal Secretary Dipak Kumar Singh also addressed the function.
