Delhi Police targeting to open 12 more training-cum-skill development centers : Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik


New Delhi : Delhi Police on Thursday launched a training-cum-skill development centre to benefit school dropouts, juveniles involved in crime or those from families facing dire state due to loss of the bread earner.

“The scheme was inaugurated last year with eight skill centres in eight police stations of Delhi. This year we are targeting 12 more centres,” said Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik.

This year, training would be offered in hospitality and retail sectors, certified by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

As per the scheme, launched under the Yuva programme, Delhi Police in 2017 tied up with the NSDC and the Confederation of Indian Industry to provide the training.¬†Almost 1,900 youths between the age of 17 and 25 were selected. “Nearly 1,700 youths were imparted training in eight police stations whereas 200 were referred to training centres outside police stations. 1,014 men and women had got job offers from different companies”.

Lt Governor Anil Baijal, who was chief guest at the event in Chittaranjan Park, said: “Police stations can go beyond their traditional role of maintaining law and order and be a community partner of social impact enabler in changing lives.”
