International Skill Summit and Skill Fiesta ‘Nypunyam’ to be held in February 2016

International Skill Summit and Skill Fiesta will be organised by the Kerala government in February next year to project the competency standards and global employ-ability of youth in the state to the employers worldwide. The skill fiesta will offer the participants with an opportunity to test and display their skills to a wide audience that comprises policy-makers, top industrialists, key government officials and general public, he said.

It will be three-day summit, titled ‘Nypunyam 2016’ and will be jointly organised by Directorate of Employment and Training and Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence during February 5 to 7.  The logo, mascot and the website of the upcoming summit was unveiled by the Minister for Labour and Skills, Shri Shibu Baby John. The participants of the Skill Fiesta 2016 are selected by way of a three tier process — institutional level, zonal level and the state level, said Mr. Tom Jose, Principal Secretary (Department of Labour and Skills).

He also said that Kerala is known as the skill capital of the country and that they have already implemented several projects, which are model for the whole country in that area. But the realization that they have a long way to go to compete with the global players have prompted them to come up with such an event. There will be 12 trades including welding, plumbing, fashion technology, auto-mobile technology, catering and restaurant service, mobile robotics, fitter, electrician, bakery and confectionery, carpentry, electronics and computer-aided design through stipulated institutions, and students and others below 25 years of age will be invited to participate in it.
