UNDP joins hands with Maharashtra government to strengthen partnership for development challanges

Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis and Jaco Cilliers, Country Director, UNDP met in Mumbai today to discuss ways to deepen collaboration on key development issues facing the state. UNDP currently supports more than 15 projects across the state on poverty reduction, skill development; energy and environment; and governance. Jaco Cillers, Country Director, UNDP India said, “We look forward to strengthening our partnership with the Government of Maharashtra and in supporting the many innovative ways the state is addressing its development challenges.”

Following the meeting with the Chief Minister, UNDP will sign a Letter of Intent with the Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal, the State Women’s Development Corporation of the Government of Maharashtra aimed at partnering on skill development, employment and entrepreneurship for women. This collaboration will focus on bridging the information gap amongst women and girls on skill development, creating employment and entrepreneurship opportunities; enhancing the role of the private sector in skill development and employment; promoting women’s entrepreneurship in key areas such as small retail; and supporting community-managed resource centres for women.

‘Creating Opportunities for Employment and Entrepreneurship for Women in India’ project is a three-year partnership between the IKEA Foundation, UNDP, Xyntéo, and the India Development Foundation, that seeks positive impact on lives of women in India through training, entrepreneurial skill development and employment, as well as to develop a new model of public-private collaboration that can be adapted and replicated across India.
