Services Export Promotion Council to organize an interactive session with key stake holders on Skilling and Higher Education

New Delhi 2022: Services Export Promotion Council, an apex trade body set up by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, is organizing an interactive session titled “India @2047: Services Sector Export Strategy and “Skilling and Internationalization of Higher Education”. This is for the first time that this interactive session is being organized by SEPC on Education services in tandem with its 12 th Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 29th September 2022. The two subject matters that will be discussed include transforming workforce skill for services exports and re-imagining India @ 2047 for higher education.

Hono’able Commerce Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal is the Chief Guest at the Interactive session and will be gracing the event with his presence and speak on the topic “Services Sector-India@2047”. Honorable Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Dr Subhas Sarkar will partake in the discussions on Education services as a special guest.

Having taken note of the faith reposed in services sector and acknowledgment of its contribution to Indian economy, SEPC is dispensing all its energy and efforts to reach exports of 350BN USD in 2022-23 and also to achieve a mark of 1 TRN USD by 2030. Inching closer every day to an established economy and a developed nation by 2046, India has recognized the immense contribution of the services sector towards this goal with focus on Education Services.

In the brainstorming session held at Vanijya Bhawan on the 31st August 2022 with key stakeholders of service industry and senior officials of the Department of Commerce, Government of India, the importance of skilling across services sectors including education was highlighted all through. The significance of higher education in providing skill sets is indispensable. This is the sector which shall help bridging the skill gap caused by the structural paradigm shift in the future economies. In order to
attract high paying foreign students, Universities must assimilate international experts with special skills. Undoubtedly, skilling and reforming higher education will take India to the next level. SEPC continues to support the sector to achieve all the predetermined goals.

The interactive sessions will promote ideation and road mapping the plan for the acceleration of skilling and developing competencies to be able to offer unparalleled services. India is also all set to leverage from the recent FTA’s that it has signed and negotiating ensuring that education services exports remain an important component of all the free trade agreements.

Shri Sunil H Talati, Chairman SEPC shared, “It is essential for the services sector to come together and chart out a strategy that not only focuses on the now but also on the future. We need to focus on skill development in the next generation as well so that the sector strengthens at every rung.”

Dr Abhay Sinha, Director General SEPC shared “The Interactive Session aims to bring together Industry captions and leaders and Senior Govt Officials from respective Ministries. SEPC is committed to achieving not only the targeted goal but go above and beyond that. The services sector has the potential to help India become a developed nation and this session will focus on chalking out a plan for the same.”
