DESCRIPTION:Background: \nThe World Economic Forum’s 2018 Future of Jobs Report predicted that by 2022\, 75 million jobs across 20 major economies will be displaced by emerging technologies. The World Economic Forum estimates that over half of all employees (54%) will require ‘significant’ reskilling by 2022. The same report predicts that 133 million new roles are expected to be created by these very same technological advances. \nIndia is one among those 20 big economies which has around 200 million people that belong to the blue and grey collar industry across different sectors. However Industry 4.0 is one of the key driving factors for change in demand of skills\, but now COVID-19 impact also can’t be ignored. SUMMARY:Launch Event of Study on “THE INCLUSION JOURNEY : Integrating Persons with Disabilities in the Hospitality and Quick Service Restaurant Sector in India”
DESCRIPTION:According to WHO\, every 10-15 out of 100 live with some form of disability around the world and every 2-4 are severely disabled. People with disabilities continue to be marginalized due to lack of many supportive environmental factors\, unequal employment opportunities\, lack of supportive policies\, etc. \nILO says unemployment among the persons with disabilities is as high as 80 percent in some countries.1 This leads to 5-7% of loss in GDP. Often employers assume that persons with disabilities are unable to work. This low level of inclusion is largely driven by myths around efforts and investment needed for effectively employing them and potential loss of productivity. SUMMARY:Webinar on "Skill Development: Emergence of Industry 4.0"
DESCRIPTION:Background\nWith one of the youngest populations in the world\, India has most of its population in the working age group\, with the trends showing that by 2022 63% of the population will be in the working age group. This immense potential is a tool that India could use in gaining economic strides globally. At the same instance\, the Industrial Revolution 4.0 is throwing variables into this equation\, by disrupting the job markets globally\, as businesses are adopting newer and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence\, Cloud Computing\, Internet of Things etc. \nEven in the present scenario\, the argument that there might just not be enough supply of jobs to meet the immense inflow of candidates is certainly untrue as there is much evidence against it\, such as 40% of the employers’ face trouble in filling positions for skilled roles. This shows the immense gap in the skills needed to fill the available jobs and the lack of it in the incoming workforce. With the immense workforce at its disposal\, this skill gap is what needs to be bridged to take advantage of the situation in which India currently finds itself. \nTechnological advancements have created an impactful spur in changing the global job market. The World Economic Forum (WEF) estimates that by 2022\, almost half the companies across the globe will be adopting automation in some form or the other to reduce workforce on the same tasks. As the machines take over the more routine and pattern-based jobs\, there is a higher demand for more ‘human’ skills\, and skills related to the Industry 4.0 technologies. As per WEF 2018 report\, the four specific technological advances—ubiquitous high-speed mobile internet; artificial intelligence; widespread adoption of big data analytics; and cloud technology—are set to dominate the 2018–2022 period as drivers positively affecting business growth. With platforms like SkillsBuild\, which is offered by IBM\, job seekers\, business owners\, entrepreneurs and any individual with learning aspirations can now tap into host of industry relevant content\, including Artificial intelligence\, Cloud\, Data analytics and security to re-skill and up-skill themselves\, at no cost. \nKey Highlights\n\nIndustry 4.0 – An overview\nIssues\, Challenges & Opportunities of Industry 4.0 in Skill Development\nRole of 4.0 Technologies for Up-Skilling\, Re-Skilling and Skill Development Training program\nRole and Responsibility of Government and Industry in promoting Industry 4.0 Technologies for Skill Development Training program\nEmergence of 4.0 Technologies in Skill Development & the way forward\n\nSpeakers\nDr. R S Bawa\, Pro Chancellor\, Chandigarh UniversityMr. Murugan Vasudevan\, Head\, Social Innovation\, CISCO India & South AsiaDr. M Jayaprakasan\, Joint Director\, DGT\, MSDEMr. Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi\, Senior Head\, Digital Skills and Innovation\, NSDCMr. Manoj Balachandran\, Head CSR\, IBM IndiaDr. Devraj Singh\, Vice president\, ESSCIMr. Narayanan Ramaswamy\, National Leader\, Education and Skill Development\, KPMG IndiaMr. Maninder Singh Nayyar\, Co-Chairman\, ASSOCHAMDr. Sandhya Chintala\, Executive Director\, IT-ITeS SSC\, NASSCOM \nKey Outcomes\n\nA perspective of what could be the way forward with the emergence of Industry 4.0 technologies in Skill Development while keeping in mind the future generation of our country.\nAs an output from the webinar\, we can compile\, summarize and submit the set of recommendations to the concerned Ministries on the basis of the discussions and inputs received during the webinar.\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:Webinar on Skill Development : Role of E-Learning platforms for Up-skilling and Training
DESCRIPTION:Context: \nIn the digital age\, the education sector has seen a proliferation of mobile apps and online learning platforms vying with traditional ways of teaching and of dissemination of knowledge. Technology is being used to augment the learning process in a way that overcomes many of the limitations of a classroom setting. This has been made possible\, in part\, due to the ability to engage multiple learning pathways\, personalized learning plans and real time feedback. \nWith changing times\, we have to envision an environment of blended learning to enhance the experience of its students. There is a push to increase student engagement and meet learning outcomes with online learning modules. In order to take a step in this direction\, it becomes necessary to gain an understanding of the status quo of skilling and study how other players in the field are approaching the challenge. With the lockdown on educational institutions unlikely to get over anytime soon\, the thrust on e-learning and online classrooms is at an all-time high. \nTopics to be covered: \n\nE-Learning Platforms : Trends\, Growth & Opportunities\nIssues and Challenges of E-Learning Platforms for Skill Development.\nRole of E-Learning Platforms for Up-Skilling\, Re-Skilling and Skill Development Training program.\nReadiness to provide E-Learning Platforms and digital tools for Skill Development schemes\nRole and Responsibility of Government and Industry in promoting E-Learning Platforms for Skill Development Training program.\n\nSpeakers: \n\nMs. Alka Upadhyaya – Additional Secretary\, MoRD\, Govt. of India\nMr. Jaideep Kumar Mishra – Joint Secretary\, MeitY\, Govt. of India\nMs. Anuradha Vemuri – Joint Secretary\, MSDE\, Govt. of India\nMr. Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi – Senior Head\, NSDC\nMr. Arvind Bali – CEO\, Telecom Sector Skill Council\nMr. Maninder Singh Nayyar – Co-Chairman\, ASSOCHAM National Council of Skill Development\nMr. Anand Kumar Singh – CEO\, CSDCI\nMs. Joyeeta Dad – Lead\, Education and Skilling\, IBM India\nMr. Ameya Vanjari – Head\, Technology and Innovation\, Tata STRIVE\nDr. Devraj Singh – Vice President\, ESSCI\nProf. Neela Dabir – SVE-TISS\n\nWhat You Will Get?? \n\nA perspective of what could be the role of E-Learning Platforms in Up-Skilling and training more effectively while keeping in mind the future generation of our country.\nAn opportunity to share opinion and recommendations which can be compiled\, summarized and submitted to the concerned Ministries on the basis of the discussions and inputs received during the webinar.\n\n\n\n\nClick Here to Register

SUMMARY:Different Dimensions of Skill Development
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nAccording to 2019 Employability Skills Report by British Council\, India is a fast growing economy\, which would require a large pool of workers with close to 63% working age population in the skilling pool by 2022. According to another report1\, the labor force is projected to grow by close to 2 per cent and would roughly add over 7 million per year for the next few years.  With an increased migration of the workers from the rural to the urban sectors of the economy\, India realizes that it has the need for a well thought out and executed strategy to provide a new set of skills through vocational training in order to effectively absorb this additional workforce and sustain economic growth. \nThis drives our attention to the need of the hour which is to build a robust infrastructure of trainers and training institutes for the same. To cover the widespread problem of unemployment and with an objective of creating a workforce that has improved skills\, and knowledge that can result in gaining access to decent employment and enhancing India’s competitiveness in the global labour market\, the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) was launched. \nGiven the changing world order and more so to meet the skilling needs of the future generation\, training of the present youth force have become an integral part of boosting capabilities and enhancing employment opportunities which are instrumental in building the economy and improving the society. \nKEY ISSUES\nTo foresee India as a skill capital\, we would have to: \n\nUnderstand that there is a need for an exposure to skilling which needs to start early at secondary education and should focus on building transversal skills.\nConnect vocational education to higher education and bring in more acceptability for this model from the community.\n\n\nIdentify potential of public-private partnership to ensure scale and quality.\n\n\nBlended mode of learning to cater to the complexities of jobs. There has to be a blend between online\, onsite\, on the job and on campus for comprehensive development of capabilities.\n\nSCHEDULE\n\n\nParticularsSpeaker (Name and Designation)TimeWelcome AddressMr. Maninder Singh NayyarCo-Chairman\, ASSOCHAM National Council on Skill Development15:00 – 15:05 hoursIndustry AddressMr. Ashish JainCEO\, Healthcare Sector Skill Council15:05 – 15:15 hoursIndustry AddressMs. Neela DabirDean\, SVE-TISS15:15 – 15:25 hoursIndustry AddressCol. SUMMARY:Webinar: "SkillTech - Leveraging Technology for Skilling"
DESCRIPTION:The ASSOCHAM\, India’s Apex Chambers of Commerce and Industry is organizing a Webinar on the theme “Leveraging Technology for Skilling” inviting eminent speakers from the Government and experts from the Industry for a meaningful and timely discussion \nChief Guest\nDr. Mahendra Nath Pandey\nHonorable Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship\, MSDE \nKey Issues: \n\nGlobal Trends in SkillTech.\nRole of Technology in Future Skilling.\nSkillTech: Opportunities and Way forward\nAvailability of Technology and Tools for Skill Development in India\nInitiatives by the Government and Industry in Skill Training\, post lockdown.\n\nOverview about the Theme: \nGiven that technology plays a huge role in development\, it has now spread its grandeur in Skill Development. Video conferencing and satellites have made it possible for students in India to swap information with their superiors in NASA- that is the power of Technology. With digital platforms like Windows\, Mac\, etc. and search engines like Google\, Oracle\, etc.\, skill development in India is now just a click away. \nForwarding skill to areas where it was formerly not possible has now become quite comfortable because of leveraging technology. It is now possible to set up power centres in rural India\, with the help of digital equipment and teach via video calls. \ne-learning and Online assessment technologies can help Skill Training Institutes to automate key aspects of teaching\, knowledge sharing and conduct online assessment. Many skill training institutes have started taking advantage of technology to enhance\, automate and scale up their operations. \nMany organizations often\, when shifting to virtual learning\, tend to reuse existing materials and formats rather than designing these from scratch. It needs to be considered that the challenges and opportunities of the virtual world are likely to be much different than those stemming from physical interactions. Technology has been an enabler and a key one at that\, but the differentiators are the skills that have emerged through this crisis situation: Resilience\, Compassion and Agility. \nBe it selling skills\, networking/ influencing skills\, all as were happening in a face to face medium will change to virtual which means a different way to approach customers\, gain their trust and sell the products. There are several examples where face to face distribution models were the only way and yet COVID has indeed accelerated the move to digital and online mediums. Learning will need to evolve to cater to a larger digital world which has more players to compete with and more markets to explore. \nEmerging technologies are gaining space in our existing skilling infrastructure at an impressive pace. Even in India\, several such technologies are already in their pilot stages; Virtual Reality is being used to train candidates on the usage of heavy machinery. \nOther examples include the use of VR to train aspiring pilots in the aviation industry. Earlier pilots were trained on lighter aircraft and then shifted to heavier airplanes. As the aviation industry is highly critical\, they were the first ones to efficiently adopt AR-VR in their skilling process. Given the costs incurred in establishing such training set-ups\, other industries are not so open about this idea presently. \nThat’s where we should expect the Government to intervene and create establishments where learning of the smallest of soft and hard skills takes place on the basis of futuristic learning technology. With the Government’s emphasis on Skill India Mission\, we can expect these plans to gain more traction. If an establishment of such a tech-based learning ecosystem is realized\, with its full potential\, we’ll have no dearth of high quality\, an aptly-trained workforce that will be able to drive India’s economy towards the right direction. Therefore\, it is safe to conclude that emerging technology and its implementation in India’s skilling ecosystem will be phenomenally beneficial for the country’s workforce as well as its industry. It has the ability to make India the international powerhouse of a competent human resource. \nClick Here to Register
