Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) invites eligible and interested Training Providers for implementation of refresher training to 40 nos. of candidates from Pobitora National Park, Assam.
Importance:
Assam’s tourism sector, particularly in biodiversity-rich areas like Pobitora, holds immense potential to drive economic growth and sustainable development. However, challenges such as underdeveloped infrastructure and a lack of skilled manpower can hinder this potential. Gypsy safari drivers and mahouts are critical to the visitor experience, serving as the primary interface between tourists and the sanctuary’s natural wonders. Enhancing their skills is essential for several reasons:
- Elevating Tourist Experience: Well-trained drivers and mahouts can provide informative, safe, and engaging safari experiences, increasing visitor satisfaction and encouraging positive reviews and repeat visits.
- Safety and Conservation: Training ensures that staff adhere to safety protocols and conservation guidelines, protecting both tourists and wildlife, especially during jeep and elephant safaris.
- Economic Impact: Improved service quality can boost tourism revenue, benefiting local communities and supporting conservation efforts.
- Community Empowerment: Upskilling local youth and existing staff fosters sustainable livelihoods, reducing dependency on other sectors and promoting community involvement in conservation.
- Given Pobitora’s high tourist footfall due to its proximity to Guwahati and its unique rhino population, investing in staff training is crucial to maintaining its reputation as a premier wildlife destination.
Overview:
This proposal outlines a comprehensive 10-day upskilling program designed to enhance the soft skills, hospitality knowledge, and safety awareness of 40 gypsy safari drivers and mahouts currently employed in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. The program is offered free of cost to participants, covering all training materials, stipends, and refreshments. The primary objective is to equip these frontline workers with the skills needed to deliver exceptional service, aligning with the ethos of “Atithi Devo Bhava” (Guest is God), thereby enhancing the overall tourism experience in Pobitora.
Scope of Work: Training will be imparted by NCVT/SCVT affiliated Training providers, Pvt. Company/ Limited Company/ Firms/ NGO/ Society/ Trust/ LLP.
