NSDC organized Skill India Rozgar Mela in Delhi, offered over 1000 placement offers to candidates

New Delhi : Thousands of job seekers thronged the premises of Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, Dwarka, New Delhi, to participate in the Skill India Rozgar Mela, organised by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to introduce the youth to potential employment avenues and learn more about the providers of these jobs by directly interacting with them. One of the largest job fairs in the city, the Rozgar Mela witnessed overwhelming participation from nearly 70 corporates and registered a footfall of more than 3000 skill seekers and job aspirants, and offered over 1000 placement offers to suitable candidates. Shri Ramesh Bidhuri, Member of Parliament – South Delhi graced the opening ceremony with his presence.

Organised by NSDC, under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), the Skill India Rozgar Mela gave an opportunity to job seekers to meet prospective employers and explore various employment opportunities, including entrepreneurship and apprenticeship. Leading organisations such as Amazon Development Centre, India Bulls Consumer Finance, PVR Limited, Reliance Jio and Lemon Tree Hotels among others participated in the event and selected candidates for job roles such as Sales Executive, Warehouse Executive, Retail Trainee Associate, Customer Service, Sales Officer and Bank Sales Manager. The Rozgar Mela brought skilled candidates in direct contact with recruiters, HR managers, admission officers and advisory bodies/training providers.

Speaking on the importance of skills for the youth, Shri Ramesh Bidhuri, Member of Parliament – South Delhi, said, “Today’s education system can make one learned, but does not make them competent. To create an effective workforce, self-employed and self-reliant, they need skill training. Considering the importance of skill development for the youth, our government is focussed on vocational training, which will help them get suitable livelihood and make them independent. Along with all ministries of the government, state governments, corporates and NGOs, we have taken the task of creating a Jan Aandolan (a public movement) to provide skill training to more than 1 crore young Indians through Skill India Mission, especially those who do not get the chance to pursue higher education beyond schools.”

Striving to achieve the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision for a skilled nation, NSDC under the aegis of MSDE, has been collaborating with various stakeholders including industry, institutions, training providers and Sector Skill Councils to create platforms like Rozgar Mela, Kaushal Mela and Skill Saathi to connect youth with vocational training and link job seekers with job providers.

Strengthening the Skill India Mission, NSDC has been implementing various private and government skill training schemes and initiatives such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK), which are targeted towards skill training of youth, especially school/ college dropouts and empowers them with employable skills. So far, about 25 lakh candidates have been certified under the PMKVY scheme and over 10 lakh have been placed in jobs, or have taken up self-employment.
