Tata Group Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “vision for India” and hailed the PM and Home Minister Amit Shah’s efforts to make the country stronger.

Stating that India is moving towards a ‘New India’, the industrialist said, “Most of the youth in the country need adequate opportunities. They will get this opportunity only when they are fully skilled. Without their skills, we cannot advance the country in the direction of progress.”

“We need new skills and new capabilities. And this is possible only with visionary thinking, as we can understand from the establishment of this institution today, he said.

“Our Prime Minister, Home Minister and other members of the government have a vision for India. One can only be proud of what we have and support the government that is as visionary as this government has been,” he said.

He further thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him the opportunity to work in this mission of skill program.

Notably, Tata Group has partnered with the central government to set up the IIS in Gandhinagar. This is the last among three such novel institutes. The foundation stones of the other two, in Kanpur and Mumbai, were laid in 2016 and 2019, respectively.

On the occasion, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani stated that the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) may start functioning from a temporary campus but will move to permanent building once completed.

We also want IIS Ahmedabad to be the first among the three such institutes coming up in the country, he added.

During the event, Rupani accepted the suggestion made by Union skill development minister Mahendra Nath Pandey to allot a temporary campus till the main structure is being constructed. “As suggested by the Union minister, my government is also keen to see that the institute starts functioning from a temporary campus till the construction work is completed,” Rupani said.
