Chhattisgarh Government planing to launch “Online Learning Platform” (OLP) to impart ‘in-demand skills training’

Chattisgarh Government will soon launch an “Online Learning Platform” (OLP) to enable imparting of ‘Virtual Education’ in the State. The Chattisgarh Infotech & Biotech Promotion Society (CHiPS), the nodal agency of Department of Information Technology and Biotechnology of the State Government will be implementing the project, officials informed. The OLP, a web-based software application for learning management will be deployed at Chattisgarh State Data Centre in Raipur.

The services from the Online Learning Platform are to be provided to schools, ITIs and Common Service Centres (CSCs) and to the students studying in various schools and colleges in Chattisgarh.

The State Government had also recently launched an online portal for enabling online admissions in more than 214 colleges including universities in Chattisgarh. The State Higher Education Department in collaboration with CHiPS has developed a software titled ‘Software Empowerment through Technology Utilization)’ (SETU) which would enable online admissions in colleges.

Higher Education Minister Prem Prakash Pandey who was present during the launch of the online portal which was launched by Governor Balramji Das Tandon had stated that the online facility would benefit as many as 2 lakh students seeking admissions in various colleges. The software incorporates the ‘best practice’ of States like  Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh, he had stated.

Higher Education Department, Secretary BL Agarwal had stated that constant efforts had been made during the past three to four years for upgrading quality of higher education in colleges and universities  of the State. The Nodal  Officers have been trained and a pilot test done to bring maximum benefit to the students from the web portal, he stated.

The Government is also setting up Help Desks in colleges with the help of CHOICE agents for proper operation of the online admission facility, Agarwal said.  Later on, CHIPS CEO Alex Paul Menon had made a presentation on the features of the web portal. Moreover, for all-round development of college students, the State Government will be launching ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Jeevan Kaushal Vikas Karyakram’ (Chief Minister Life Skills Development Programme) for College Youth.

This programme will be started from upcoming academic session, officials informed.

It is noteworthy that objective of this scheme is to enhance employability of college students, and improve their confidence level as well as creative competitive skills.

Under this scheme, students will be trained in English language, computer education and behavioural skills. This will improve their employability to greater extent. This scheme will be implemented under National Higher Education Campaign.

As per the instructions of State Government, implementation of this scheme will commence from upcoming academic session, for which State Project Office has issued necessary guidelines to all the Collectors under National Higher Education Campaign.

The Chattisgarh Government would also be setting up a Project Management Unit (PMU) for proper implementation of the ‘Mukhya Mantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana’.

The project is a major initiative taken by the Chhattisgarh Government to improve placement rates of fresh college graduates of three and four year degree courses in IT and ITeS sectors, officials informed. The programme envisages providing training to students in such areas of aptitude that are required to successfully navigate the selection process of IT and BPM employers and secure placement.

The training will be designed with a view to imparting in-demand skills and abilities in contemporary employment market.The training will be delivered by leading trainers who will also make necessary arrangements for the employment opportunities for placing a minimum of 60 per cent of the total students undergoing the training program.
