New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced various skill modules for students of classes VI to VIII. According to officials, the modules are aligned to the skill subjects offered by the board in secondary and senior secondary classes.
“The board has taken a lead to develop study material for classes on handicrafts, coding, financial literacy, artificial intelligence, design thinking, digital citizenship, augmented reality and virtual reality, among others,” officials said.
A series of webinars have been scheduled by the board on blue pottery, bakery, khadi, block printing, mask making, Kashmiri embroidery, food preservation and mass media. The webinars will be held till May 19, officials said.
In a statement, the board said, “These courses are 10-15 hours long and purely optional Moreover, they do not require any investment in terms of labs or special subject teachers as these are meant to provide tertiary level exposure to students. It is left to the discretion of schools to integrate and introduce these modules.” Teachers will do assessment internally, it added.
“The National Education Policy 2020 recommends that vocational education will be integrated smoothly into higher education with the beginning of vocational exposure at an early age in the middle and secondary school level,” the board said.
