The Department of International Development (DFID) in partnership with the Skill Council for Persons with Disability and India Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi organised an exhibition on assistive technologies for persons with disability in New Delhi on 27 th November 2019. Around 18 innovative exhibitors participated and showcased their products in the exhibition such as smart (sensory) sticks, AI enabled talking sticks for blind, language interpreter, tactile breast examination techniques, car seats and several software applications for different disabilities.
In addition to the exhibition, DFID also organised a technical session on Assistive Technology for the training partners and employers showcasing various Assistive Technology solutions to support the Persons with Disability (PwDs) for better living and earning. The session was delivered by UK’s National Star College.
Mr. Gavin McGillivray, Minister Counsellor and Head of Office, DFID highlighted the endeavor of the Government of UK in furthering the Skill India Mission and how UK best practices can be incorporated in India.
To name a few, technology houses who had exhibited their products included Robo Bionics, AssisTech, Thinkerbell, Saksham, Buddy Cabs, Bennett University, National Association of Blind and National Star College.
The exhibition saw close to 200 visitors including students, parents, teachers, trainers. Education institutions and leading NGOs. This initiative was organised under DFID Skills for Jobs programme.
