Stakeholders from Aviation sector in UK and India unfold innovative perspectives in online workshop organized by FCDO with NSDC and AASSC

Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in partnership with National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) and Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skills Council (AASSC) organized an online workshop on ‘Emerging models for Skill Development in the Aviation sector’ on Friday, 26 March.

Representatives from training institutions, employers and skill development boards from the UK and India spoke in the online workshop which was attended by 65+ stakeholders from the aviation sector in India.

Ms Anu Gupta, Head- Skills and Inclusion, FCDO India delivered a warm welcome note to the speakers and audience of the online workshop. Ms Vandana Bhatnagar, Chief Programme Officer, NSDC, followed up with her insights on the growing trends like the use of digital skills, linkage of curriculum and industries, ToT programmes and convergence with formal education in the sector. The innovative trends in the sector were also reinforced by Mr Rachit Bhatnagar, CEO, AASSC Mr Bhatnagar spoke about initiatives by AASSC in deploying state-of-the-art technology in skill development in aviation.

Post the opening session, speakers from the UK delivered technical presentations unfolding perspectives from employers and training institutions in the UK.Ms. Sandra Kelly, Director, People 1st International introduced the audience to the Aviation Industry Skills Board (AISB); Ms Julie Blasbery and Simon Newbold, experts in the sector, focused on insightful case studies of special interest working groups under AISB. Mr Gethin Hill from International Centre for Aerospace Training, Cardiff and Vale College presented innovative training models the college has adopted in the post-covid era to reach learners from across the world.

Following the technical presentations, Ms Vandana Aggarwal, Senior Economic Advisor, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India shared flagship initiatives by the Ministry of Civil Aviation during these challenging times. These sessions followed a participatory Q&A session. At the end of the online workshop, Mr Sanjay Valsangkar, Head – Skills and Business Engagement, FCDO India gave his vote of thanks to all the speakers, organizers, and the audience.
