New Delhi : UK-India join hands as a force for good, holding an online meeting to share key insights from a study on ‘Future job roles in solar water pumping sector’. The study, commissioned by FCDO (erstwhile DFID), Govt. of UK, under the Skills for Jobs Programme, in partnership with Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) will help identify new age job roles in the solar water pumping sector which would further guide development of National Occupational Standards. KPMG was the implementation partner to carry out the study.
The study is based on secondary research and primary consultations with the industry partners to identify the emerging areas in the field of Solar Water Pumps along with the type of jobs in demand in next 3 -5 years. The analysis takes into account the employment potential in the sector based on government initiatives such as PM KUSUM scheme to promote energy sustainability through adopting renewable sources for power generation.
Mr. Sanjay Valsangkar, Senior Programme Manager, FCDO India, briefed the audience about FCDO and its skill development initiatives, particularly in Renewable Energy Sector. Dr. Praveen Saxena, CEO SCGJ presented a brief on SCGJ and activities being taken up in the solar sector and how solar water pumping is emerging as a leading sub-sector. He further informed the audience that SCGJ has developed 20 QP’s in the sector already and that their team is in the process of reviewing content.
The event saw over 50 participants which included industry participants and solar water pump manufacturers like Rotomag, Bright Solar, Analogicstech, Dukeplasto, Intebg, etc. FCDO Technical Assistance team presented the findings and recommendations of the study. This was followed by a discussion and feedback from the participants. The session ended with a vote of thanks.
