NHAI, Ministry of Skill Development to formulate plan to promote skilled workforce for infra projects

New Deilhi : National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) chairman, Deepak Kumar, held a meeting with Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to discuss skill development plan required for projects under the its ambit.

NHAI is set to launch highway projects that would generate annual employment of about 12.5 crore man days from 2018 to 2022, adding up to 50 crore man days in four years.

“The ongoing and targeted projects of NHAI would generate estimated employment of approximately 50 crores man days over the next four years on a seasonal basis” read a release by the authority.

The projects would require one crore professional man days, 3.5 crore skilled labour man days and eight crore semi-skilled labour man days. NHAI envisions to complete projects of about 10,000 kilometer in the next two years. There are total 282 road projects under progress at present.

“NHAI currently has 282 projects having length of about 20,000 km under implementation. There are around 220 projects having length of about 31,000 km which are targeted to be awarded and completed in the next 3 to 4 years across all the states,” said the release.
