Punjab to have three IISDCs for skill development, state government signed historic MoU with Tata Technologies

Chandigarh : Three big cities of Punjab – Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar – would soon be getting Innovation, Incubation and Skill Development Centres (IISDCs) on hub-and-spoke model. The centres would be one-stop spots for integrated training on technical and skill development.

The Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC), state local government department and the Tata Technologies Limited (TTL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Friday for establishing these centres.

Local Governance Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said the endeavour would help in providing ready local pool of engineers, operators, technicians and skilled human resources required by the industries in manufacturing sector and increase employability of youngsters. IISDC will be setup as one-stop center for providing integrated training on technical & skill development.

Furthermore, the minister also elaborated that this high end industrial training will increase chances of good quality jobs and upgrade course curriculum in sync with the modern industrial practices and would further help innovators to develop new products and will promote technology start-ups.

The learning methodology will include classroom and lab sessions, online videos, e-learning, assessments and joint certifications at the IISDC. In addition, there will be joint supervision of students in IISDCs, special lectures and seminars by the industrial experts.

Sidhu added that the TTL and industry partners would extend support to provide job opportunities to all eligible trained students. TTL would contribute approximately Rs 552 crore (88% of total cost) for establishing these IISDCs in three cities. They would be providing training for three years without any charges and during this period, local trainers would also be trained.

Local government department principal secretary A Venu Prasad said that the target students at Hub (Ludhiana) shall be engineering students, engineering and diploma students who have passed out and employed engineering graduates, to enhance their technical capabilities.

The targeted students at Spoke (Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar) shall be Class X and Class XII passouts, existing engineering polytechnic students, ITI students and unemployed diploma and ITI holders who have passed out.

Elaborating more, Director, Local Government, Mr. Karnesh Sharma said that the targeted Industry at Ludhiana would be Bicycles & bicycle parts, Automobile parts, Hosiery goods, sewing machine and parts, Home appliances, Machine tools, Readymade garments, Hosiery needles, Rubber goods, Labels (metal & cotton), Chemical goods, Oil engines, Agricultural implements, Electronic goods, Tractor parts, Cycle tyres/tubes, plastic goods, etc.

On the occasion, CEO, PMIDC Mr. Ajoy Sharma added that those at Amritsar would be Manufacturing, retail trade, service activates, capital goods, IT & ITeS, repair & servicing of motor vehicles, motor cycles/ scooters, household goods, workshops, dyeing & hosiery, mechanical products, electrical machinery & apparatus, machinery & parts while those at Jalandhar would be Sports Goods, Repair & servicing of motor vehicles, motor cycles / scooters, household goods, workshops, recycling, Machinery & Equipment’s, Electrical Machinery & Apparatus, Motor Vehicles Trailers etc. & Parts, Computer & Related Activities.

The targeted industry at Amritsar would be manufacturing, retail trade, service activates, capital goods, IT&ITeS, repair and servicing of motor vehicles, motorcycles, scooters, household goods, workshops, dyeing and hosiery, mechanical products, electrical machinery and apparatus.

Whereas, target industry at Jalandhar would be sports goods, repair and servicing of motor vehicles, two-wheelers, household goods, workshops, recycling, machinery and equipment, electrical machinery and apparatus, motor vehicle trailers.
