Central Govt. to provide “all possible help” for skill development of youth of the North-East for gainful self-employment : Skills Minister, Rudy

Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) : Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (SDE) Rajiv Pratap Rudy asserted that skill development programes would be expanded in Arunachal as well as in other North-East states to make the youth of region self-reliant.

Addressing the inaugural day of the two-day conclave of Young Leaders Connect (YLC), with the theme ‘Start-up North East, Stand-Up North East’,  focusing on entrepreneurship and skill building in the North East states ,  the Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said skill development needed to be integrated with school education for successful entrepreneurships.

“Over the years in India, education has had a distinct bias over skill. Without skill, no education will serve the purpose. We have given more weightage to education instead of skill development, wherein lies the flaws,” he said, adding that the north-east had immense natural resources to start enterprises.

“The Centre is working for skill development of the youth of north-east in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has created a separate ministry,” Rudy said, adding that his ministry would work in close coordination with the respective state governments for self-employment of the youth through skill development programmes.

Outlining the significances of skill development and entrepreneurship, the union minister of state exhorted that skill development ensures better avenue and guaranteed self-employment to the people. Many skilled people are deprived of employment on the ground of language, he said underscoring the need to tackle the issue.

“Arunachalees have better opportunities as compared to other North Easterners as Arunachal is the only state in the region where both Hindi and English are fluently spoken” said Rudy adding that the languages should also be taught.

Union minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy today said the Centre will provide “all possible help” for skill development to the youth of the north-east for gainful self-employment.

The key event had a session on “Challenges and Opportunities of Entrepreneurship and Skill Building in the North-East” which was chaired by Business Editor CNN News Karma Paljor and the panelists were Spana Poti, Head of North East NSDC, Dr. Sriparna Baruah, Head Centre for Industrial Extension and Consultancy Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Arindam Hazarika Co-founder Arohan Food Guwahati and Bhairavi Jani, Executive Director SCA Group. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijijju also motivated the youth towards skill development and self-employment.
