Gram Panchayats being developed to go digital, will support in Skill Development: Chief Secretary

Dehradun  : The gram panchayats in the State are being developed into digital-gram panchayats. Common service centres have also been opened in the gram panchayats where the optical fibre cables have been laid. This was stated at a meeting chaired by the State Chief Secretary Shatrughna Singh at the Secretariat to review progress made in the six schemes out of the various success models adopted by different States, information about which was made available by the Government of India.

It was stated in the meeting that the stated works are being undertaken in the Panchayati Raj department, local administration, technical education department, skill development scheme, woman welfare department, IT department online services available to the public, sports department and the health department.

Regarding the local administration, it was stated that work was being undertaken and progressing in the direction of garbage management and bio gas plant. Training is being provided in different trades under the skill development programme in addition to which employment opportunities are also being provided.

As part of effort aimed at stopping child marriage, Narsan in Haridwar district had been chosen for the pilot project. IT-based public services are also being provided apart from various other services under the purview of the right to service. Other services are also being linked with those under the purview of the right to service.

Apart from this, the scheme has also been started for nurturing sporting talent among boys with the same facility slated to be made available for the girls with sporting talent in the near future. Action plan has also been made towards achieving the objective of stopping feoticide, said officials, while also adding that special focus is being accorded to Pithoragarh and Tehri districts considering the drop in sex-ratio.
