Session on “Skill Development for Women” held at four-day POASH WAHRAAT event in Srinagar

Srinagar : A session on skill development and entrepreneurship for women was held today at the ongoing four-day POASH WAHRAAT event at Institute of Hotel Management, Srinagar from 5th – 8th July, 2018. The session included presentation from J&K Skill Development Mission (JKSDM) which highlighted the different avenues of skill development meant for women in term of employability and income earning opportunities.

The Poash – Wahraat event was organized by POASH, a non-political, women centric initiative focused on women empowerment in the valley and providing platform for women entrepreneurs and business houses to showcase their products and highlight their accomplishments. The four day event included exhibition of 30 different entrepreneurs of the valley, cultural shows, musical programs, Kaarigarmela –presented by different artisans of the valley, Hunar- job mela, Baithak- a women conclave and Kashur bazaar by school students.

“Early skill development of youth in schools and colleges is the need of the hour. Skill Development programs meant for women are aimed to provide skills and confidence to women and help them to achieve economic and social independence”, said JKSDM official.

Sharing the concept of the event, Asma Wali, one of the organizers of the event said, “The platform will provide an opportunity for interested young and budding entrepreneurs to learn from the success, experiences and challenges faced by various skill and entrepreneurship development stakeholders.”

While sharing her experience, Safina Khan, a participant said, “Such kind of events are essential in our state so that women folk of the state are made aware about the different skill development and entrepreneurial opportunities through which women can become self-dependent and contribute more actively towards the development of the society.

Anisa Akhter, narrating her 30 years journey of being an entrepreneur said, “The road of entrepreneurship is loaded with risk-taking initiatives, one should be careful and do proper homework before choosing to be entrepreneur and upscale your entrepreneurial venture only after it has become sustainable.”

The session was attended by representatives from JKSDM, women entrepreneurs, students and various skill development stakeholders.
