Karnataka Budget : Skill Development got attention

Bengaluru : The H.D. Kumaraswamy budget has allocations for improvement of skills in various sectors, with focus on augmenting incomes among the poorer sections of society.

To improve job opportunities for local youngsters, a new technology reeling machinery at a cost of ₹2 crore has been announced for Santhemarahalli in Chamarajanagar district to impart skills for silk reeling. A Koushalya Parampare School (traditional skill school) has been announced to encourage the traditional art skills of Lambani knitting, Bidari arts, and production of toys and leather artefacts. The government has allocated ₹90 crore for the Chief Minister Koushalya Karnataka Yojana to impart industrial training to 70,000 new candidates, while ₹37.5 crore has been set aside for upgrading the skills of 25,000 women garment workers belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribe communities.

To provide employment opportunities, job-oriented education will be introduced in first grade colleges and universities. Besides, ₹2 crore has been allocated for the introduction of professional skill development programmes in pre-university colleges to impart vocational training.

Under Guruchetana, the government also intends to enhance the capability of one lakh school teachers through 10-day capacity-building programmes. Language skill training schools will be set up in the name of Alur Venkatarao at a cost of ₹2 crore in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Belagavi, and Kalaburagi to improve the way language is taught in primary and secondary schools.
