Thiruvananthapuram : The government is launching an ambitious project to network engineering colleges with the main IT hubs in the State, under plans to develop a talent pool of students equipped with skills to suit industry requirements.
Named Skill Delivery Platform for Kerala (SDPK), the project will rely on a telepresence videoconferencing network to enhance learning opportunities for students in 150 engineering colleges under A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Kerala Technological University. The e-learning platform is expected to impart skill training to around 50,000 students every year. Kerala State IT Infrastructure Limited (KSITL) has been designated the special purpose vehicle for implementing the project.
M. Sivasankar, IT Secretary, said the SDPK was aimed at improving the employability of engineering graduates by providing them skills training in emerging areas such as blockchain and Internet of Things.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan scheduled to launch the SDPK at a function on Wednesday to mark 1,000 days of the LDF government. He will also launch the Space Tech Application Development Ecosystem, a project by the Kerala Startup Mission to promote companies working on space data analytics and electronic components development.
One another project launched on Wednesday is an integrated facility for the International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS) dedicated for research and innovation.
