Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today announced a special skill development programme for rural youth during the summer vacation.
The Labour Department of the Territorial administration would conduct the skill development programme, she said during a meeting with residents of Chettipet village in Mannadipet Assembly constituency.
She was in the constituency as part of her weekend visits.
Bedi said the government had geared up its machinery to implement the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to ensure infrastructure in rural areas.
In a press release, she said the District Rural Development Agency has been providing subsidy to houses without toilets.
Chettipet will emerge as an open defecation-free village in June this year and the administration has expedited the sanction of subsidy for construction of toilets in houses lacking the facility, the release said.
